FAQ
Common questions about BuoyDrop.
General
What is BuoyDrop?
A direct marketplace connecting seafood buyers with fishing vessels, harvesters, and producers. Buy dock-fresh product; sellers keep more of the value.
Is BuoyDrop the seller?
No. BuoyDrop is the platform. Each sale is between buyer and seller. That’s why we show a clear disclaimer at checkout.
Do you deliver?
Not yet. Pickup only for the beta. Delivery (and later shipping) is on the roadmap and shown as Coming Soon.
Is payment live?
The beta uses mock payment so you can test the full flow. Real card payments (Stripe test mode, then live) come next.
What areas do you cover?
Sellers pick their state and harbor or business address. We’re expanding harbor lists as more regions join. Alaska and West Coast demos are seeded for testing.
Buying
Do I need an account to buy?
Not for the beta. Enter your name and phone at checkout. We’ll save order details for the seller to confirm and contact you.
Why can’t I see a seller I know?
They may not be approved yet, may have paused all products, or may not have listed anything today. Ask them to check their dashboard and approval status.
How do I contact the seller?
On their storefront or after ordering, use Call, Text, or Email if they enabled those buttons. Some sellers hide their number for privacy.
Can I order from more than one boat?
Yes. Add items from different sellers to your cart. Checkout creates a separate order for each seller so each one can confirm.
What if the fish isn’t as described?
Resolve it directly with the seller first. BuoyDrop is not a party to the sale. Report serious issues to the admin for the beta.
Map pins look wrong
Pins use the seller’s harbor coordinates or the pin they dropped for “where we are today.” If something’s off, ask the seller to update location on their profile.
Selling
Why don’t buyers see my products?
Most common: account not approved yet, product paused/OFF, quantity at zero, or you’re viewing as yourself only. Check the amber “Waiting for approval” banner and product toggles.
How do I get approved faster?
Complete your profile, add a fish story and photos, and upload a license or permit under Business verification. That helps the admin verify you.
How should I write my fish story?
Plain language works best: how long you’ve fished, what you’re known for, and what a first-time buyer should expect. Buyers trust people, not just price.
What photos work best?
Daylight shots of this catch, clean fillets or whole fish, boat or stall. Up to 5 photos per product and on your profile. Real photos sell more than stock images.
I’m at a different dock today
Edit profile → Where we’re at today. Name the spot, add notes (ramp, truck color), and optionally drop a GPS pin.
Low stock / auto-pause
When quantity runs low, the listing may pause so you don’t oversell. Update quantity or Unpause when you’re ready.
Can I edit a product after listing?
Yes. On your dashboard tap Edit on any product to change price, quantity, photos, and details.
Account & privacy
How do I log in as a seller?
Go to Sell → choose your boat/business → enter your PIN. Don’t share your PIN.
Can I hide my phone number?
Yes. Edit profile → uncheck Call and/or Text under “Show on my public page.” Email is off by default until you turn it on.
Is my data safe?
We use HTTPS, hashed PINs, rate-limited logins, and limited file uploads. The beta is for testing — don’t use passwords you use elsewhere; use a unique PIN.
How do I share my storefront?
Open My page → Copy my page link → paste into Facebook, text, or email. That link is your mini website on BuoyDrop.
